Gor Mahia Football Club In Celebratory Mood After Their Today's Opponent Pulled Out

Gor Mahia’s Caf Confederation Cup second leg match against Al-Ahly Merowe scheduled to be played on Sunday at Nyayo Stadium has been canceled after the Sudanese failed to show up.

Gor Mahia camp is in a celebratory mood after the opponent failed to turn up. This, therefore, means they will progress to the next round of the competition.

By yesterday, the Sudanese side had not arrived in the country by Saturday evening. There was no communication from the side either.

While Speaking yesterday ahead of the match, Gor Mahia Sporting Director Lordvick Aduda while speaking to the media Said “Until Merowe fails to appear for kick-off at 4 pm, that’s when we will know the game is not taking place. For your information, the match officials arrived and even trained yesterday in the morning. Our team had a feel of the pitch and we are gearing towards the game".

He went on “Teams have challenges in traveling, but as the host team, we are prepared to play the match today. As far as we are concerned, we have not received any information either from them (Merowe) or CAF that they are not coming. Our arrangements to host the match are still going on.”

Did they sense another humiliating defeat here in Nairobi? Or lack of funds is the reason why they didn't show up. African clubs are perennially suffering from insufficient funds for logistics support.
