Sturm can strike in defeat at Stade Louis II

Struggling Monaco should bank a much needed victory when they entertain Sturm Graz on Matchday 1, though the Austrian outfit are fancied to contribute towards a high scoring game at Stade Louis II.

Monaco looked like a team really going places towards the end of last season, and they eventually finished third and just five points shy of champions Lille in Ligue 1.

Niko Kovac’s men have endured a disastrous start to the new campaign though, exiting Champions League Qualifying at the hands of Shakhtar Donetsk and winning just one of their opening five top flight outings in France, losing three.

ASM have conceded in their last eight starts across all competitions, so both teams to score rates the best bet for Thursday’s action in the Principality, as opposed to backing the hosts at long odds-on.

With Monaco toiling defensively, Sturm Graz can definitely get themselves on the score-sheet at Stade Louis II to enhance their fine goalscoring form this season. The Austrians have scored in all ten of their competitive fixtures, bagging 30 goals in total, and they should find some joy in this Matchday 1 clash at the hosts push on for a confidence boosting success.

This is of course a major step-up for Sturm compared to the teams which they’ve faced domestically this term, but their scoring stats are too good to ignore and the evens about both teams scoring here is generous.

We do expect Monaco to prove their class though and Kovac’s charges are taken to secure three points via a 3-1 score-line.
