Kenya has been privileged to be the only country in Africa to host the world cross country tour leg that will be held in February 2022. Athletics Kenya has announced that this event will be named in the honor of the fallen athlete Agnes Tirop who was buried yesterday October 23, 2021 at her home county in Nandi.

Athletics Kenya president Jackson Tuwei made this announcement during her funeral. The gold marathon that will be held at Eldoret in February 12 will be known as Agnes Tirop memorial cross country.

"We have chosen to name our World Cross Country Tour meet after Agnes who brought alot of honour to our country," said Tuwei.

Tirop became the youngest athlete to win a cross country marathon which she did it in 2015. She also a champion in the 10000 metres and also held the world record for it. She emerged 5th in the Tokyo 2020 marathon finals for the 5000 metres.
