Football Stars Who've Been Recalled Back To International Duty After A Long Absence

After the current season of club football is over, there will be continental tournaments. This are the prestigious Copa America and Euro 2020 tournaments. With that in mind, participating nations are already submitting their squad lists beforehand. This week has seen several countries post their full squads for their upcoming competitions. Social media has been abuzz with fan's opinions and predictions over which side will amaze.

Moreover, most fans have been surprised to see several players in their country's squads. These players have been missing in action for a while due to age, injuries and several other problems. Let's have a look at them:

Thomas Muller

The German midfielder was left out of Joachim Low's plans along with Bayern teammates Jerome Boateng and Matts Hummels in 2019. Muller admitted being angry and surprised by the sudden turn of events. He has however been admitted back in to represent his nation. Muller will offer creativity, experience and power on Low's midfield in this coming Euros

Karim Benzema

On Tuesday, Real Madrid lethal striker Karim Benzema was named in France's 26-man squad for the Euros. Last time the goalscorer represented the country was in 2015. Benzema fell out of favour after a sextape controversy rocked his career. He is accused of blackmailing teammate Mathieu Valbuena by threatening to make a sex tape public in 2015. He however maintains his innocence. France Coach Didier Deschamps really needed a dependable striker alongside Olivier Giroud, Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Grizmann.

Dani Alves

Legendary full-back Dani Alves was recently recalled to the Brazil international squad after being absent for almost two years. Last time he represented Brazil was in October 2019. However, Alves' name was included Selecao's World Cup qualifiers squad due next month.

He'll therefore be available to play against Ecuador and Paraguay.

Matts Hummels

Like his German counterpart Muller, Hummel has been given another chance by Joachim Low to strengthen the team's defence. Currently playing for Borrusia Dortmund, Hummel's is well known for his defensive capabilities and ability to perform in big games. He will thus offer ariel duels, tackles ball distribution for the German side.
