Former Chelsea center back William Gallas has warned Graham Potter from signing Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol. According to Gallas, Gvardiol is more of a risk than an asset if he signs for Chelsea since he does not have the experience to coop in the Premier League. Gallas has not completely ruled out the possibility of signing the defender since he believes that in the future Gvardiol will become a talent worth playing for Chelsea.
“Trust me when I say that signing Gvardiol right now is not a good idea for Chelsea. The fans are of course piling the pressure to sign him but I don’t think it will happen any time soon. I know Potter is clever enough to realize that. Gvardiol is a good player but I don’t think he is ready for the Premier League. Chelsea have all the players they could possible need,” commented Gallas.

Gvardiol was pivotal in Croatia’s third place finish in the World Cup. He was even voted in the ESPN World Cup squad and the Young Players’ Team for the World Cup. RB Leipzig are open to selling him in January but for a mouthwatering fee which could exceed €100 Million.

My opinion
There is no need for Chelsea to add any more defenders than they already have. In the summer they added Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly who are both magnificent backliners in the contemporary football. Unfortunately, Potter is not a fan of Koulibaly since he has not used him as often in the Premier League and Wesley Fofana is currently recovering from an injury.

I concur with Gallas that Chelsea need not to sign Gvardiol in January. They are barely satisfying the defenders they currently have and adding a new defensive figure could be disastrous. Potter should just stick with the players he currently has within his disposal and hope they can rediscover their spark.
