The Only Two Players to Ever Receive Two Red Cards In Two Different World Cups

In 1994 World Cup tournament hosted in USA, Cameroon national team was placed in group B alongside Brazil, Sweden and Russia. The then coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon Henri Michel made a surprise call-up to the team ie Rigobert Song born on 1st July 1976.

In the tournament Cameroon drew their first match 2-2 against Sweden, lost 3-0 against the Samba Boys from Brazil, the match that Rigobert Song 17 years set the record as the youngest ever player to get a straight red card in 64th minute. They went on to be thumped 6-1 by Russia.

Rigobert later on set another record of being the only player to receive 2 red cards in two world cups in France 1998, where he received 2 yellow cards in 8th and 51st minute respectively in their final group stage match against Chile.

Zinedine Zidane born on 23rd June 1972 also became the second player in 2006 to receive two red cards in two different world cups and also the first ever Les Blues player to be red carded in the history of the tournament. Both incidents happened in 1998 in 71st minute against Saudi Arabia (group stage) and against Italy in 110 minutes extra time (final). Italy won 5-3 in penalty shootouts.
