Manchester City were in action against Chelsea at Etihad Stadium as they all looked forward to qualify for the next round in the FA competition. This was the second time these two were facing in other in less than four days after meeting last Thursday where the Sky Blues won 1-0.
In today's match, the Cityzens were the better side as they took control of the game in the first half. The match was goalless until In the 23rd minute where Mahrez give his side the lead with a brilliant freekick.
Julian Alvarez added the second one six minutes later from a penalty spot. Phil Foden made sure they were 3-0 up before half time after he scored from close range following a lovely pass from Kyle Walker.
In the second half, Chelsea made some changes with the hope they'll turn the score around. However, things didn't change in the second half. They ended up losing the second match in a row against Pep Guardiola men.
In that match, one of the City stars who was impressive is Mahrez. The Algerian international gave Chelsea defenders no rest with his great footwork and pace. In their last match, he was started from the bench and came in to score the winning goal.
Today, he was given a chance to start and went on to score a great freekick. Mahrez is considered as one of the best wingers in the Premier League. His outstanding performance today proved he might be unstoppable for the Sky Blues If he'll be given more playing him.
This now means that, Mahrez top perfomance in today's match proved Pep Guardiola wrong for benching him in the recent matches.
