Bruno Fernandes On Target As Manchester United Beat Southampton

Bruno Fernandes scored in the second half to help Manchester united overcome Southampton by a solitary goal in a Premier League match played at the St. Mary's Stadium on Saturday.

The big talking point ahead of kickoff was the exclusion of captain Harry Maguire and star player Cristiano Ronaldo who were both kept on the bench for the second successive game. Marcus Rashford started upfront while new signing Lisandro Martinez kept his place in the heart of the backline alongside Raphael Varane.

The first half was a dull affair with the only real chance falling to Southampton from a corner but David De Gea was quick to the save. Manchester United were playing at a very slow tempo and barely made any openings despite Southampton also being poor.

Eric Ten Haag's team improved the speed of their passing after the restart and were rewarded just ten minutes later. Antony Elanga drove and fed Jadon Sancho was took just one touch before laying the ball to Diogo Dalot who had overlapped from his right back position.

Dalot then played a one time pass in the box where Bruno Fernandes was on hand to supply a cultured finishing touch for Manchester United's first away goal since April against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Cristiano Ronaldo came on later but could not get his first goal of the season as United held on to record their second win of the new campaign. The win takes them to six points after four matches and will only get the morale inside the Manchester united dressing room better and higher.

Next up for the Red Devils is a trip to face Leicester City on Thursday before they host Arsenal at Old Trafford next Sunday.
