Two analysed soccer slips to make you win big today

Montpellier are hoping to finally get on the board and record their inaugural Ligue 1 win when they host Lorient in the third round of the competition.

Montpellier scored five goals in the initial two rounds of the 2021/22 season, but they will go into this clash with Lorient with just one point in their pockets.

The lack of defensive meticulousness is to be blamed as the new manager Olivier Dall’Oglio is still searching for the optimal back line formation.

La Paillade bagged three goals in the first half of the last weekend’s clash against Reims, but it counted for little as the team had to settle for a draw at the end.

The story is completely opposite with Lorient whose back line seems rock solid at the beginning of the season.

Lorient opened the campaign with a 1-1 draw at Saint-Etienne. They backed up such a positive result with a 1-0 upset against Monaco nine days ago.

The head coach Christophe Pelissier can thus be thrilled with the job he has done this summer. Can he guide Lorient to the third subsequent match without a defeat here?

Montpellier will be desperate to make amends for the slow start to the season, especially when it comes to their defensive showings. They almost secured European spots in the previous term of Ligue 1 they still have more quality in their ranks than Lorient.

After all, Lorient had a disastrous away record of 1 win, 7 draws, and 11 defeats in 19 away games last season in Ligue 1 (19-39 goals difference). This is thus a nice matchup for Montpellier who bagged 34 goals in 19 home fixtures last year.
