Prior to the start of this year's African cup of nations tournament,Algeria were clear favorites to win the cup for a second consecutive time. The reason was because they were the best and the highest ranked team in Africa. In addition to having their Manchester City superstar and captain Riyad Mahrez, they looked unstoppable. However after two games played at this year's tournament in Cameroon, they are nowhere close to the top.
As of yesterday, they were humiliated by a weak Equatorial Guinea team. They were beaten by one goal to zero in a game that Guinea dominated all aspects of the game. That is from ball possession percentage, shots on target, key passes and successful dribbles made.Guinea's win saw Algeria's 35 game unbeaten run come to an end. They were just two games shy off breaking the longest unbeaten run in the world at 37.Their bitter loss now sees them at the bottom of their group and on the brink of elimination. They will become the first defending champions to be eliminated at the group stages.
