Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has all but ruled the move for the talismanic Manchester City Striker, Sergio Aguero who will be available on a free transfer in the summer. He was speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the Liverpool clash on Saturday, the 3rd of April, 2021.
Arteta who worked with Sergio Aguero while serving as assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City from 2016-2019 before taking over from Unai Emery at Arsenal was full of praise of the City forward.
He described Sergio Aguero as one of the main faces of the project at City while praising his leadership, charisma, and personality. Arteta felt sad that Aguero is leaving City but still felt he had done enough to be remembered in history books.
Among the Arsenal ranks, Arteta heaped praise on Lacazette who will be entering his final year of the Gunners contract in the summer for his performance in recent months. He described the work rate for the French international as "phenomenal". He has since been linked to Sevilla and Roma in recent months, having joined Arsenal from Lyon in 2017.
The Arsenal manager was however non-committal when pressed on whether Lacazette will extend beyond his current contract.
Arsenal host Liverpool on Saturday, live on Sky Sports. Currently, the club is in the 9th position in the Premier League, 9 points off the top four. Arteta has led Arsenal to the quarter-finals in the Europa League and is set to play Slavia Prague during the next two weeks.
