Senegal registered their first win in the world cup, after beating hosts Qatar 3-1. The African Champions showed their class in the match when Dia grabbed the opener for Senegal in the frist half. Diedhiou added his name to the scoresheet with his team's second. Qatar pulled a goal back thanks to a Muntari strike but the game belonged to the African side as Dieng added Senegal's third. Senegal could have a possibility of qualifying for the knockout stages after Netherlands and Ecuador played out to a 1-1 draw. Netherlands have four points after the beat Senegal in the opening match, they now lead group A by a narrow one point. Hosts Qatar have been eliminated from the world cup after failing to win in their first two matches. They have zero points after losing to Ecuador on the opening day and today losing to Senegal.
Senegal just need to win their final match against Ecuador to qualify for the next round.Senegal are also the first African team to grab a victory in the tournament. They are without their main striker Sadio Mane who was unable to play due to an injury.
