World Cup table after France beats Australia 4-1 and Argentina loss 2-1 to Saudi Arabia

Day three of the World Cup comes to an end with France beating Australia 4-1.

World Cup holders France delivered a powerful statement of intent by outclassing Australia, as Olivier Giroud equaled Thierry Henry's all-time scoring record for the national team after scoring a brace.

Craig Goodwin gave the Socceroos a shock early lead when he powered home a far-post finish after nine minutes, but they then fell victim to the 2018 World Cup champions led by veteran Giroud and Kylian Mbappe.

First, Adrien Rabiot's header put France level after 27 minutes, then he set up Giroud for a simple finish five minutes later following a brilliant Mbappe backheel.

Else where, Saudi Arabia shocked Argentina with a 2-1 comeback .There were also two 0-0 draws, and Robert Lewandowski is still injured after failing to convert a penalty for Poland against Mexico.

World Cup table after Day three

Netherlands, England, Saudi Arabia and France are leading in thier respectively groups A,B, C and D, with each 3 points, after all emerging victorious in thier opening world Cup matches. Argentina are the only big team that suffered a humiliating defeat and are at the bottom of their group C.
