New Candidate To Replace Ole Gunnar Emerges. Ed Woodward To Stay? Two Stars To Miss Champions League

Following Ole Gunnar's exit from Manchester United, there has been a lot of rumours about who is likely to replace him as the manager. After getting just one win in the last seven matches,Ole left the club's officials with no other option but to send him home. For many,it was the best decision given the poor run of results. He left with a win rate of 54% and with no trophy. He however came close to winning trophies numerous times by getting to the finals, including last season's Europa League final against Villarreal.

That aside, many people have been rumoured to be among the list of candidates to replace Ole Gunnar. For instance Zinedine Zidane. The former Real Madrid manager was rumoured to replace Ole even before the latter's departure. However,it is believed that Zidane is not interested in managing the club.Zidane is a well decorated manager who has even won the champions league.Considering that the red devils have only won one trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson left,it wouldn't come as a surprise seeing them persuade Zidane till he agrees. With Michael Carrick as the interim manager, that can buy them more time to get a better manager.

Laurent Blanc is the new candidate on the list. The former Manchester United player is rumoured to first be the interim manager and if he performs according to expectations, then he will be appointed as the club's head manager. This is the same approach that they used with Ole Gunnar just after Mourinho left.Laurent is currently at Qatar based Al Rayyan and once managed Paris Sainte Germaine(PSG) in 2016.

Moreover,Sevilla head coach Julen Lopetegui is another new candidate according to Marca. He last season helped Sevilla get the highest ever points in the club's history and are only two points behind the la liga leaders this season.

Ed Woodward to stay?

Manchester United vice-chairman is rumoured to prolong his stay at the club.He had announced that he would step down in early January after the super league scandal. However, following the axing of Ole Gunnar,he will stay to ensure a smooth transition for Carrick and also help in appointment of a new manager. Moreover,he was the one that proposed to the officials that Ole should be sacked. This is bad news for the club's fans as many believe that since he and the Glazers took charge of the club, the club has not been performing as expected.
