Opinion: Four Tactical Changes By Arteta That Helped Arsenal Win 3:1 Against Chelsea

Arsenal bounced back yesterday in the perfect way as they beat their London rivals Chelsea. The gunners were desperate for a win as they had flopped in their last four matches. Three consecutive draws had seen them reduce the deficit between them and Manchester City who were now leading the table. Three changes to the starting line up saw Arsenal get their preferred results. The fan's had been calling for resting of some player's described as key as they had played many consecutive matches, while some very good player's were sitting on the bench. Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior, Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith are some of the player's who have played less matched and continuously sit on the bench even when some starters are not performing. So what was the turning point for Arsenal yesterday?

1. The introduction of Jorginho to the midfield in place of Thomas Partey seemingly worked. The Italian player, who is a former Chelsea man saw him dictate the play from the middle of the pack as he showed his former team what they were missing. He had the most touches at 77, he won back possession more often, that is 9 time's and completed more passes (63 time's) which is more than any Arsenal player.

2.Jakub Kiwior's introduction

The introduction of Jakub Kiwior in place of Rob Holding worked perfectly fine. This was his first start in the premier league and he didn't disappoint. Kiwior ensured that former Arsenal man Aubameyang had very little of the ball. He just had nine touches in the match with four of those coming at the start of the match. He had to be taken off at halftime.

3.Perfect timing for subs

For the first time in ages, Arteta got it right in terms of substitution. He brought out Leandro Trossard early in the second half for Gabriel Martinelli who continued to press. He would later bring on Reiss Nelson who has been fantastic as well this season.

4.Leandro Trossard over Martinelli

Trossard was heavily involved in the making of the goals despite not giving an assist. He is usually effective at making quick decisions and is more direct with the ball as compared to Martinelli.

Arsenal won the match 3:1 with the goals having been scored by Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus. The captain had two goals. Chelsea pulled one back courtesy of Noni Madueke who netted a first EPL goal.
