With the January transfer window edging closer as each day lapses, clubs are positioning themselves for a successful window. A number of clubs want to add more quality signings to their squads so as to have a successful last half of the season.
As this happens, other clubs have been seen tying down their key players with long-term lucrative contracts to vend off interested suitors. 
This morning, FC Barcelona have received a huge blow after their top transfer target, Martin Zubimendi signed a new five years contract with his club,Real Sociedad. Xavi's Barca have been looming over a potential free transfer next summer. Zubimendi was in the last year of his contract but has now signed a new deal.
Other than Zubimendi, Benfica have also succeeded in getting their star player,Luis Florentino sign a new contract. The highlyrated top talent has been a key player for the Portuguese top club and is now set for a longer stay. In his new contract, he has a one hundred and twenty million euros release clause.
