Fierce Gor Mahia Beat Al Ahly Merowe in Egypt to Edge Closer to CAF Confederation Cup Group Stages.

FKF Super Cup winners Gor Mahia are one step away from qualifying for the group stages of CAF Confederation Cup.

The Kenyan representatives defeated their hosts Al Ahly Merowe 3-1, in a match played in Egypt as from 8 PM. The hosts took the lead in the 41st minute but that did not shake a determined Gor Mahia side which came from behind to score thrice.

Gor Mahia leveled the scores in the 56th minute from Sammy Onyango's strike before scoring two quick goals within 5 minutes courtesy of youngster Benson Omalla and Jules Ulimwengu in the 66th and 70th minutes respectively.

Coach Mark Harrison named Gad Mathews, Harun Shakava, Frank Odhiambo, Fred Nkata, Philemon Otieno, Ernest Wendo, John Macharia, Alpha Onyango, Benson Omalla, Sammy Onyango and Jules Ulimwengu in the starting lineup while Celeb, Joachim, John, Sydney, Victor and Nyawir were in the substitution list.

Gor Mahia will meet Al Ahly Merowe a week later in Nairobi, for the second leg of the continental tournament. The Kenyan representatives will be playing for at least a draw to qualify for the group stages.
