Qatar becomes the first country to lose opening match

History has been made in the opening match of the 2022 Fifa World Cup, played bt host country Qatar and rivals Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium. The 0-2 loss to Ecuador makes Qatar the first host country to lose an opening match.

The net was blessed by a header from Ecuador's forward Ender Valencia at the third minute, which was revoked by VAR for offside claims. In the sixteenth minute, Ecuador was awarded a penalty, which Valencia had the privilege to direct behind the net.

In the thirty first minute, Valencia took another header and made it a goal, assisted by Ibarra.

Qatar had their chance at the first half additional time when the team's forward Alomez Ali missed a header that would definitely be a goal. This game makes Ali's first appearance without a goal, considering he leaves a goal at every appearance.

Qatar are set to face Netherlands on November 25th and Senegal on November 29th to complete their Group A matches.
