History has been made in the opening match of the 2022 Fifa World Cup, played bt host country Qatar and rivals Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium. The 0-2 loss to Ecuador makes Qatar the first host country to lose an opening match.
The net was blessed by a header from Ecuador's forward Ender Valencia at the third minute, which was revoked by VAR for offside claims. In the sixteenth minute, Ecuador was awarded a penalty, which Valencia had the privilege to direct behind the net.
In the thirty first minute, Valencia took another header and made it a goal, assisted by Ibarra.
Qatar had their chance at the first half additional time when the team's forward Alomez Ali missed a header that would definitely be a goal. This game makes Ali's first appearance without a goal, considering he leaves a goal at every appearance.
Qatar are set to face Netherlands on November 25th and Senegal on November 29th to complete their Group A matches.
