Regarded as one of the world's best defenders, Virgil Van Dijk is a professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Liverpool football club and Netherlands' Men National Team.
While it is customary for football players to have their surnames as their jersey names, Virgil Van Dijk has always preferred his first name Virgil throughout his career, that is, at Celtic FC, Southampton FC and Netherlands National Team.
While speaking to the Scottish Sun back in 2018, Virgil's uncle Steven Fo Sieeuw revealed the history behind the defender's choice of his jersey name.
According to Steven, Virgil's father split with the defender's mother and Virgil together with his 2 siblings found it hard to forgive him.
Therefore, there has been a long disagreement with the father since he was not around for Virgil's important years.
His mother has been the real hero of his story and amazing football career.
