Latest Updates From Tokyo Olympic Games

The Team Kenya Olympic Opening Parade outfit actualizes H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta’s legacy of amplifying Kenya’s culture and heritage.

The beads are developed from the Ushanga Initiative model, a government flagship project that seeks to empower marginalized pastoralist women in Samburu, Baringo, West Pokot, Kajiado, Narok, Turkana and Marsabit by turning their beading work into an internationally viable enterprise with full benefits to them.

Jewelry features core elements of the Johari Bead, a national symbol of His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta’s commitment to end FGM by 2022.

In 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta pledged to end FGM in Kenya by 2022, well ahead of the global target of 2030.

This global visibility using Kenyan Olympians as anti FGM ambassadors therefore aims to accelerate efforts towards that goal by using art to educate, spark conversation, and illustrate the harmful effects of FGM and its impact on the lives of women and girls, which not only hinders their potential, but that of society as a whole.
