For decades now, Kenya has been producing some of the elite boxers who have gone on to win medals at world stages such as in the Olympic Games as well as in the Commonwealth Games.Latest heartbreaking updates indicate that one of the iconic Kenyan boxers Philip Waruinge has passed on.
Born in 1945 in Murang'a, Waruinge was one of the most decorated Kenyan boxers after winning medals at the Olympics, Commonwealth and All African Games.Waruinge's first international medal was a gold medal which he won at the 1965 All African Games.After that, he went on to win 2 gold medals at the Kingston and Edinburg Commonwealth Games as well as a silver and bronze medal in Munich and Mexico Olympic Games respectively.
Professionally, Waruinge who competed in the feather weight category won 14 fights, drew in 1 and lost 10 fights.He passed while in Nakuru at the age of 77 years old.From our side we console with family and friends.
