Mikel Arteta is not taking any chances for the next season after an underwhelming 2020-2021 campaign, so he is focusing all of his efforts on reinforcing the position he deems faulty.
The goalkeeping department is one of the positions he is particularly interested in bolstering. The desire to sign a new goalkeeper stems from Arteta's desire to add some healthy competition to his goalkeeping department, not because Bernd Leno is a slacker.
Andre Onana and Sam Johnstone have both been linked with a move to Arsenal, but no fruitful negotiations have taken place to date. Arsenal has had to re-evaluate their goalkeeping targets as a result, and Sheffield United's goalkeeper is now the number one target.
A deal for Ramsdale seemed simple, but it now appears that Arsenal will spend more than they anticipated. Some reports suggest that Sheffield United has already turned down two bids from Arsenal for the 23-year-old. With two bids rejected, Arsenal may decide to abandon their pursuit of Ramsdale, but The Guardian reports that the Gunners are preparing a third sugar-coated bid worth £18.5 million.
Arsenal fans should hope that the third bid will be enough to sign a goalkeeper whom Liverpool's manager, Jurgen Klopp, dubbed "incredible" after his heroics against Liverpool in a league match in February 2021.(source-The Guardian)
