Hakim Ziyech was always going to miss today's session due to the shoulder injury he suffered in the UEFA Super Cup. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, meanwhile, was also unavailable to attend as he is currently isolating having tested positive for Covid-19 last week.
Fans at the training ground were unable to see the two stars as injury concerns mount ahead of the weekend's London derby.
“N’Golo felt discomfort in his ankle (on Friday). He (first) felt it in the warm-up in the Super Cup match against Villarreal. He played a little bit in pain and he felt it again," Tuchel explained.
“We decided to take him out and not risk him at the beginning of the season. I think N’Golo will be back in the middle of the week to get ready for Arsenal.”
New Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku appears to be extending a tradition of becoming friends with the Chalobah brothers upon his return to Stamford Bridge.
The Belgian became the Blues’ record signing last week as he rejoined the club in a £98m move from Serie A champions Inter Milan.
Romelu Lukaku, Jorginho, Ngolo Kante, and Reece James were all pictured in unfamiliar positions in today's training session at Cobham. The Chelsea players were in goal, saving shoot from their teammates a position we are used to seeing Eduoard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga regularly.
These players have incredible talent to be able to pull off these wonderful saves, despite it not being their natural position. This is a major boost for Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea because he can call on any one of them if something goes wrong in a match with Eduoard Mendy or Kepa Arrizabalaga.
