Senegal have become the first African team to qualify for the round of sixteen in the ongoing world cup. This was after a 2:1 win over Ecuador.Senegal started on the right foot as they constantly threatened in front of the Ecuador box. Boulaye Dia had an open chance that he squandered early. But when it looked like the match was headed for a draw at halftime, Senegal got a penalty. Ismaila Sarr stood and slotted it home with a no-look kick to make it 1:0 heading to the break.

Ecuador got a goal in the second half at around the seventieth minute from a corner and this was scored by Moises Caicedo. This gave the Ecuadorian side new hope but then it was short lived as Senegal would score a minute later via Kalidou Koulibaly
All eyes are now on Tunisia, Ghana, and Cameroon who sit pretty well and still have chances of progressing to the next round.
