The athletic fraternity has been thrown in deep mourning after one of their own, Damaris Mutua, was found dead in a room at Iten, Elgeyo Markwet county this evening.
According to reports on the ground, the young and promising lady was allegedly killed by her Ethiopian boyfriend who took to his heels after committing the heinous act.
Days after fleeing to Ethiopia, the boyfriend called one of her friends and notified him of the athlete's dead body lying in the house.
Whether it was a relationship-related issue or not, it is yet to be established what might have transpired between the two.
The body has allegedly been moved to the morgue awaiting postmortem.
Directorate Criminal of Investigation (DCI) is yet to issue a report regarding the death of the athlete.
Kenyans on social media have flocked the comment section to express their condolences with a section calling for the immediate arrest of the boyfriend.
