Ajax have successfully replaced Lisandro Martinez with a more dependable option and for half the price that Manchester United paid for the Argentinian. Calvin Bassey has already been unveiled as Ajax’s new defender as well as Jurrien Timber’s newly found partner in the backline. Bassey has a respectable reputation in the Scottish league as well as the Europa League where he managed to make it into the Team of the Season shortlist last campaign. Alfred Shreuder, the new Ajax Manager, admittedly stated that he was very delighted by the move and he has very high expectations for the 24 year old.
As for Lisandro Martinez, he is yet to show what he can offer during the pre season because the club was against the idea of him travelling almost half of the world for a week’s worth of training. The Premier League is to commence in the next couple of weeks and between now and then, the Argentinian alongside Eriksen will be training individually at Colney.
Reliable sources have revealed that Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman will be joining Italian side Hellas Verona ahead of next season. It is understood that the 25 year old is in advanced talks with the representatives of the Italian club and within a week’s time, all will be done and dusted. Olympique Marseille have made it no secret to the player that they no longer need his services in the center of the park and he should find a club that will accommodate him as soon as possible.
Manchester United scouts had earmarked the midfielder as one of the few candidates that could potentially be recruited to strengthen the midfield. Until now, Manchester United have not signed replacements for Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic which makes the move for Strootman imperative. Erik Ten Hag has asked for more time to analyse his choices at the club but unfortunately for him, time is against the club at the moment since the transfer deadline is fast approaching.
