South American nation Equador began the 22nd edition of the Fifa world cup on a brilliant note, as they defeated the hosts Qatar 2-0 in the opening match at the competition which took place at the Al Bayt stadium on Sunday.

The Fenerbahce striker Enner Valencia was hence the man who lifted his home team higher by all attempts and goals that hence saw Equador in the lead ahead of the hosting team.
Enner Valencia thought he had put Ecuador ahead in the third minute but his effort was ruled out for offside, Valencia then won a penalty in the 15th minute after he was fouled in the penalty area by the Qatari shot-stopper Saad Al Sheeb.
Valencia converted from twelve yards to put Ecuador a head and also scoring the first goal at Qatar 2022 world cup. He is therefore his country record scorer at the Fifa world cup hence the all time scorer for Ecuador.
At 31 minutes Enner Valencia powered a header into the bottom left corner to double Ecuador advantage. The South Americans began their campaign with three valuable points against the hosts Qatar.
