Demba Ba announces his retirement

Former Chelsea, Newcastle United and West Ham United striker Demba Ba has ended his 16 year playing career.

He won the Turkish tittle twice in recent seasons with Besiktas in 2016/2017 and Istanbul Basaksehir in 2019/2020.

Ba who had two spells in China with Shanghai Shenhua and won 22 cups for Senegal was without a club after leaving Swiss side FC Lugano in August.

He tweeted, "It is with a heart filled with greatfulness that I announce the end of my playing career." 'What a wonderful journey it has been. Beside all the sweat and tears I have faced, football has given me so many beautiful emotions. "

"From the passion of the fans and the noise coming from the stands after every goal to the connection with my teammates on and off the field, this will forever remain on my head and heart."

Ba arrived in the English Premier League in 2007 signing for West Ham after joining from TSG Hoffeinheim and the forward scored 7 goals in 13 appearances for the hammers. He later joined Newcastle United where he scored 29 goals in 58 appearances before moving to Stamford Bridge where he scored 14 goals in all competitions for Chelsea between 2012 and 2014.
