Mt. Kenya Television Shut for One Month & Fined Kes 500,000 by the Communication Authority

The Painful Whip

A couple of days ago, Mt. Kenya Television aired a pornographic program in the name of a cartoon show. It's an incident that raised an alarm from the general public and in a couple of hours, the Kenya Film and Classification Board took the matter into their hands. Pornographic content either in the form of videos, pictorials, or published materials is illegal in Kenya.

The Verdict by the Communication Authority

The Kenya Film and Classification Board in conjunction with the Communication Authority of Kenya condemned the act and took the appropriate actions to safeguard our children who broke for a holiday several weeks ago. As an act of solidarity, the Communications Authority shut the station for 30 days and imposed a heavy fine of Kes 500,000

Safeguard Our Children from Harmful Content

Dr. Ezekiel Mutua said on Facebook that safeguarding our children is supposed to be a collective responsibility. It will teach others on having good manners and that such an expose is just but harmful and a serious offense. The Chief Executive to the Kenya Film and Classification Board urged the media and content suppliers to work closely with the Board by ensuring that content is submitted for review and classification.
