The job of the Inspector General of Police is one of the most powerful positions in the country today. As the man at the helm of the country's security, the IG has a freehand to execute his duties.
Often, a senior member of the police service is assigned to the IG as his principal assistant. In most cases, the senior cop should be in the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police or Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police.
Today, Abdalla Komesha is that senior police officer serving as IG Japheth Koome's principal assistant.
Komesha succeeded Gideon Munga Nyale as IG Koome's Principal Assistant. Nyale is now serving as the director of police reforms at the Kenya Police headquarters, Vigilance House.
Before being appointed to his current role, Komesha served as the director, National Centre for Counterterrorism. Previously, he worked as the director of the Banking Fraud Unit of the Directorate of Criminals Investigations ( DCI).
As IG Koome's PA, Komesha executes most roles on behalf of the police boss as instructed. At times, he acts on behalf of the IG. He can also represent the police chief in meetings.
