More than 2.1 million Kenyans in 12 Counties are facing starvation , unable to put things together even one meal a day. It has been a tough year for people living in arid and semi-arid areas .
It has been months without rain in this places and animals are left with nothing to eat. Isiolo residents have been hit hard in the past one year , one year had locust invation , Covid-19 pandemic and know another severe drought .
They have to walk for 40km in search for food and pasture for their livestock since the areas are totally dry and nothing green is seen .Isaac Boru , a resident in Isiolo told the news reporters that he has lost 15 cows and 31 goats to this drought and the reaming ones are still dying .
Over the last 50 years , temperatures in Isiolo Couny has risen by 1.01 degrees ,not only making the County hotter but also causing the number of livestock to decline by 10 percent .
Felix Okech from WFT : the decision to provide relief cash , instead of relief food , is so that the communities may chose what they want. The resident have been recieving Ksh 5000 after 2 months which they say it has been helping them a little.The flash appeal is looking tho raise $ 139.5m to the curb the drought which was declared a Nation deserter by the Kenya Government.
