Joseph Mutwiri went for a swim and unfortunately lost his life after he drowned at gwatu river in meru county.
Confirming the accident, the assistant chief said that she responded quickly to save the life of a man who had gone under water but all in vein.
The villagers say that they believe the deceased didn’t know the depth of the water.
When the mother realized he’d taken long to return he went to in search of him. When she found her son’s phone, shoes and clothes placed beside the water, she raised an alarm.
Evangeline, the chief also said, “the fire and rescue team were contacted and responded quickly and they arrived with their equipment and looked for the body everywhere but unfortunately they did not find it.
The residents that the Red Cross team who arrived on scene and pulled the body out of the water and handed it to the police who took it to the morgue.
OCPD Gwate police station warned the members of the public saying, “I caution members of the community against washing clothes, fetching water and fishing from the river because a similar accident also happened not long ago where a boy drowned while fishing.
The body of the deceased will be given to his family after postmortem exercise is over.
