Meru County First Lady Madam Priscilla accompanied by County Second Lady Madam Lucy, County Executive Committee members (CECMs) Dr. Eunice of Water and Irrigation, Linner of Education, Gender and Social Development together with other County Government officials and leaders. Today led a women empowerment drive in Igembe South at Akui Primary School in Athiru Gaiti Ward, Athimba Primary School in Kanuni Ward, and Muti o Kiama Dispensary, Akachiu Ward.
They distributed certified maize seeds and other planting materials to the women groups through the Meru Twaweza Program. She spoke on development and empowerment programs and initiatives that have been delivered and continue to be implemented by the administration of the Meru Governor and his Deputy.
Madam Murungi called upon the women to organize into groups and continue registering for various empowerment initiatives under the "Twaweza Program". She said Governor has continued to deliver development especially provision of water through boreholes in Igembe and other dry regions of the County. Given that water shortage impacts negatively most on women which is why the Governor had made a promise to remove containers from their backs.
She reiterated a program is already underway across the County to give out water pipes and tanks by Governor's administration, adding that her Program will continue to provide empowerment to women as a supplement to these developments, through the provision of low-interest loans and financial literacy training, among others. So that the women of Meru can be uplifted politically, socially, economically, and culturally.
On her part, Madam Lucy urged women to come out and take part in all the empowerment programs and opportunities that have been availed especially through the Program. So that they are not left behind. She called on the women across the County to remain focused on empowering themselves because they are the backbone of the community.
