Police are investigating an incident where a woman is accused of stealing a months-old child to save her estranged marriage. The 17-year-old woman is currently being held in a police cell after confessing her crime and is expected to be presented before a court for theft which is against the law.
An extract from Mwananchi Newspaper
According to the police, the said lady committed the offense to save her 2-year marriage which was on the verge of collapsing after spending the entire period in her marriage without a child despite numerous attempts to have a child.
Police say that her reason for committing the offense does not hold water and that the courts will make the final ruling on the case. Cases of childlessness in marriages have forced many families to seek alternative ways of having children including adoption. She will be arraigned in court this week in Tanzania.
