Nyeri is among the 21 Counties that have been heavily affected by the ongoing drought. The situation has continued to worsen over the last few months. The number of people in dire need of humanitarian assistance in the County has risen to 131,000 with the worst hit sub counties being Kieni East and Kieni West in need of relief support.
To this end, I have launched Kshs 11 Million set aside to buy relief food by my administration through the Nyeri County Famine Relief Coordination Committee which ensures proper coordination of all food aid from Government and other partners.
I wish to re-affirm my government's commitment to spare no efforts in ensuring that lives of our people are safeguarded as we continue to seek long term solutions to the issue of recurring drought.
I call upon all friends of good will, to join the Government in supporting needy brothers and sisters in the County. Donations can be in kind or financial". Hon. Mutahi Kahiga Nyeri Governor.
