Tragic accident
Christmas Day was marked by a crash at Engwata, Mackinon Road, along the Nairobi-Mombasa route that left five persons dead at the scene and three others hospitalized in severe condition.
A Subaru and a BMW traveling for Mombasa were involved in the 7am collision.
Two people inside the BMW were burned beyond recognition when the vehicle caught fire after collision.
Driving while tired
Three of the six occupants of the Subaru died, and the remaining four are being treated at Moi Referral Hospital in Voi, Taita Taveta County.
According to reports, the Subaru was transporting local tourists to Mombasa.
The two people inside the BMW were severely burned. Fatigue may have contributed to the accident. When a driver feels exhausted, we ask them to take a break."
Fredrick Ombaka, the police chief for Kinango Sub-County, said: "This is really regrettable, and I want to warn drivers to drive carefully, especially around the holidays.
