According to NTSA school zones are put in place to ensure safety of learners in and around Kenyan schools. While classes are in session, drivers should be responsible for maintaining safety and awareness on the streets surrounding the schools. Therefore all learners should be able to walk to or from class without fear of being hit by passing vehicles.
Drivers must not be careless around the school zones, therefore they must be careful. They must respect every zone speed limit and understand the traffic laws for these locations. They must follow them at all times.
Therefore NTSA announces that all drivers driving through the school zones to be extra careful. According to the report shared through the social media platforms, they should reduce speed when driving through the school zones.
The National Transport and Safety Authority was established through the Act of Parliament. The objective of forming the Authority was to harmonize the operations of the key road transport departments and help in effectively managing the road transport sub sector and minimize loss of lives through road crashes.
Therefore they are mandated to register and licence vehicles in Kenya, to legally operate on Kenyan roads. They also carry out motor vehicle inspection and certification. They give the government advice on national policy with regard to road transport sector.
Lastly, they formulate and review the curriculum of driving schools and coordinate the activities of persons and organisations dealing in matters pertaining to road safety.
