This article suggests highways and roads in Nairobi that really need to be expanded in order to reduce traffic congestion. This is as a result of increase in the number of users and complete lack of alternatives when there are incidents like maintenances or minor accidents along the roads.
1. Jogoo Road
Jogoo road is usually a nightmare during rush hours of the day, especially weekdays. That is in the evening when going towards Donholm and in the morning heading towards the CBD. Though PSV drivers along Jogoo Road are known for being notorious, the road needs expansion by atleast on lane on each side to accommodate more motorists with ease.
2. Kiambu Road
Kiambu Road is usually a parking lot during morning hours, especially for vehicles heading towards town from Ridgeways area to Muthaiga and then to Pangani. This road is a one way traffic road and most times, traffic officers are forced to stop vehicles from one side to allow others from the opposite side move before releasing the formerly stopped. Though expanding Kiambu Road could be costly due to the area's terrain, the government should consider it part of their upcoming projects.
3. Juja Road
Though there are not so many vehicles along Juja Road as many motorists have the option of connecting from Thika Road, the road dearly needs expansion to reduced traffic. This is especially from Kariobangi Roundabout to Eastleigh area. The place is usually packed up during peak hours.
4. Waiyaki Way
While the upcoming Nairobi express way could lessen traffic along Mombasa road, those who'll be connecting from Nairobi CBD going towards Kangemi will still have it rough. I suggest after the express way, the government should consider adding a lane on either aides of Waiyaki Way because obviously the expressway could disadvantage regular users of the normal Waiyaki wayPhoto Courtesy.
Although it would be impossible to completely eradicate traffic congestion on our roads, there are certain obvious procedures that can help lessen traffic congestion. One of them being expansion of all major highways and then being strict with traffic policies and procedures.
