Speaking to a local media, Kenya’s mission in New Delhi said they could not dependently confirm if the body was of a Kenyan as no documents were found near him. They further confirmed that Indian police are investigating the matter.
However, Africans living in the populous country said that the man was known to locals as John and widely believed he came from Kenya. They further revealed that he was heard speaking Swahili and even confirmed that he was a Kisii.
“I remember meeting him one day on the road, he greeted me and when I sought to find out if he was Kenyan or Tanzanian as he spoke Swahili, he told me that he was a Kenyan from Kisii who came to India 25 years ago to study, after which he opted to hustle here,” a Kenyan woman living in India said.
The woman further revealed that he never disclosed his residence and she believes he was homeless in the streets of India.
