Mama Sarah was buried yesterday at her matrimonial Kogello home.
Most mourners were blocked from visiting the burial site due to the government Covid-19 restrictions that were put in place by government.
The funeral service was attended by family members and leaders such as Governor Anyang' Nyong'o ( Kisumu), ICT PS Jerome Ochieng, PS devolution Francis Owino, Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, Siaya County Assembly Speaker George Okode, county commissioner Michael Ole Tialal.
The former United States of America president Barack Obama mourned the death of the grandmother and said that he will live to celebrate her life.
"My family and I are mourning the loss of our beloved grandmother, Sarah Ogwel Onyango Obama, affectionately known to many as “Mama Sarah” but known to us as “Dani” or Granny. We will miss her dearly, but we’ll celebrate with gratitude her long and remarkable life," Barack Obama remarked.
Star digital journalist published an article that the former president Obama will come to Kenya to mourn the death of the grandmother.
It Indicated that ODM leader Raila Odinga, Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong'o, Foreign Affairs CS Rachel Omamo and US Ambassador Eric Kneedler will receive the former president at the Airport.
