There was a plot not only to Kidnap but also murder the independent electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati during the process of tallying of presidential election results at Bomas of Kenya, president William Ruto has alleged.
In a tense speech at State House where he was meeting officials from independent and constitutional commissions, institutions and offices, the head of state says that merchants of impunity attempted to Kidnap Chebukati and murder him thereafter. That is not all.
The president says that there was a plot to install a collaborative commissioner as the IEBC head after Chebukati's murder with the sole mission of subverting the will of the people of Kenya.
The president congratulated Chebukati for standing firm against intimidation and refusing to be induced with financial inducements offered to him by the said merchants of impunity.

He lauded him for having set the clearest example to independent commissions and institutions on the importance of standing their ground when induced to commit illegalities.
