Weeks To Her KCPE Exams A 14 Year Old Girl Drowns In Kitui County

A 14-year-old KCPE candidate from Waita Primary School in Kitui county's Mwingi central perished this evening at the Waita water-rock catchment dam.

Caxton Mutambuki, the deceased's uncle, said the tragedy occurred around 5 p.m. while the girl was playing near the dam's edge.

She drowned after slipping and falling into the water while playing.

He claimed that after returning home from school, the girl went to gather water with a companion and ended up dying.

Local divers, according to Mutambuki, were unavailable to assist with her rescue. They were a little late.

He said that the divers assisted in the recovery of the schoolgirl's body.

The body was taken to Mwingi level 4 hospital by police, who were joined by relatives of the deceased.

He urged the government to act quickly to prevent other deaths by creating a perimeter fence around the dam.

According to him, at least six individuals have drowned near the dam in recent years and necessary action should be taken by the necessary authority.
