Kenyans online have reacted differently after a photo of a woman who was caught shoplifting in Ngong town went viral. In the photos that were shared online, the woman who goes by the name Mercy Njoki was forced to lift a placard at the entrance of the shop he was found stealing from.
The placard was written. ‘I Am A Thief’ with her name on it. This image has elicited mixed reactions with some claiming that the punishment was unfair bearing in mind that Kenyans are facing hard times during this period.
Others were quick to state that this was the right punishment for her since she was caught stealing. It is not yet clear what the woman was caught stealing but the punishment according to many was not warranted.
