The family of Joseph Gathogo, a 45 year high school teacher is still in shock after his body was found in a concrete casket with a wooden top inside his rented house in Ihururu, Tetu constituency, Nyeri county.
Gathogo was reported missing on December 19, 2022. Family members and friends have been searching for him endlessly in vain. They reported the matter to the police.
They however didn't suspect anything bad had happened to him since in 2020, he went missing but after two weeks, he was found safe in his house.
His brother revealed that a few days ago, they noted a strange smell emanating from his house.
They called the police who broke the door only to find the body in the casket. He had poured formalin inside the casket probably with the aim of preventing the body from decomposing.
Close friends described the late teacher as a reserved person who always preffered staying alone at home. He could only meet friends and colleagues at the shopping center to discuss politics.
