A retired teacher and his wife were on Thursday morning burnt to death in a suspected arson attack in south mugirango, Kisii County. The couple was deep asleep when fire broke out.
Sameta village residents raised alarm after seeing smoke coming from the house but their efforts to put out the fire were futile.
Mr Mogoa Moruri was a retired teacher while his wife Florence was Gekongo SDA Primary School headteacher. The neighbors mentioned that the couple's children had just reported back to school and have narrowly escaped the menace.
Police have since launched investigations to establish the cause of the fire and the suspects behind the criminal act that happened around 3:30 early morning.
The unrecognisable remains of the couple was moved to kisii hospital morgue.
The neighbors claimed that the couple had a protracted land row with some local residents and that the fire might have been started.
