Big Blow to Bar Owners as Police Issues New Directive Hours After President Uhuru Lifted Curfew

A few hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the dusk to dawn curfew that has been in place since March, police have issued a new clarification on bars operation.

President Uhuru lifted the curfew during Mashujaa Day celebrations that went down in Kirinyaga County.

While the President said the lifting of the curfew was to be effected immediately, police have issued another directive concerning bars operations.

Police, via their official social media platforms, have said all bars should close at 7 pm.

Police have said the existing measures on bars remain unchanged for now but did not specify the exact date when the measures will be removed.

"Following the vacation of the COVID associated curfew by H.E the President during MASHUJAA Day speech, existing measures on the closure of bars by 7.00 pm remain in place for now.  Enforcement of violation of this measure to continue," police tweeted, sparking mixed reactions from Kenyans.
