Prepare For Heavy Rains Starting From This Date If You Leave In Specified Areas

The Kenya Meteorological Department has improved the dissemination of scientific knowledge to the general public by providing accessible meteorological and climate information in accordance with the World Meteorological Organization.

The ministry made this possible through the creation of an efficient telecommunications system for the rapid collection and dissemination of meteorological information.

The weather service provided timely alerts on expected weather changes in various parts of the country over a specified period of time. The updates were fundamental to improving the use of natural resources for national and regional development.

 The Kenya Meteorological Department, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, has provided weather forecast updates which are valid from 12-18 October 2021.Heavy rains are expected in various parts of the country during the forecast period, according to the forecast.  [Photo courtesy]  Occasional rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected in parts of the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Central and South Rift Valley and the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County. 

  Showers and thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon in the Highlands west of the Rift Valley in the Lake Victoria basin in the central and southern Rift Valley; [Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, UasinGishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, West Pokot, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Busia, Migori, Baringo, Nakuru, Narok and Laikipia]. Light morning rain is expected over some of these areas and there is also the possibility of occasional showers in the evening during the forecast period.

Nights are expected to be cloudy, but some areas may experience nightly rain during the forecast period.  Occasional cloud cover expected in the Highlands east of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County; [Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, TharakaNithi and Nairobi counties.

These areas are likely to receive occasional afternoon and evening showers and cloudy nights during the forecast period.  Heavy rains forecast in these areas could have an effect on disruption of transportation and commercial activities.
