Tension is high at the border of Kericho county and Kisumu county among traders after Kisumu county revenue officers allegedly crossed the border to Kericho side to collect revenue. The traders have raised concerns on who or which county they should be responsible for.
They claim that they are now confused as they have been paying to Kericho county since but Kisumu county took over in 2021.
"Kisumu County Governor Anyang Nyong Why is your County illegally and Unlawfully Collecting Revenue in Sondu on the side of Kericho County? ," Chirchir said
Sondu town is a fragile town as a conflict between the two neighboring communities goes into frequent conflicts due to cattle theft, tribal conflicts among other reasons. The new counter-accusations could escalate if not quickly addressed by the two counties.
"This may result in border disputes lets be cautious at times for the sake of peace between the two counties. It should be handle in a proper manner," Langat said .
