The Kenya Meteorological Department working in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has provided an update of weather forecasting for the next 7 days whose validity ranges from 27th July to 2nd August 2021. According to the forecast, rainfall is expected over few places in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the South and Central Rift Valley and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley. The forecast highlights that Isolated storms are likely to be experienced in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
Most parts of the country are likely to experience cold and cloudy conditions accompanied by occasional light rains especially in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County and the Central and South Rift Valley.
Regional Forecast for the Next 7 Days From 27th July to 2nd August 2021
1.The Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley; [Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia Counties],
Morning rains are expected over a few places with afternoon showers and thunderstorms in some places during the forecast period. Cloudy conditions at night and showers over a few places is expected during the forecast period.
2.Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County; [Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi Counties],
The mornings are likely to experience cloudy conditions breaking into sunny intervals. Afternoon showers are also expected with cloudy conditions at night. The climate of the above areas is generally likely to be cool and wet with light rains over a few areas during the forecast period.
3.South Eastern Lowlands and the Coastal Strip; [Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties],
The mornings are likely to experience cloudy conditions with a chance of showers breaking into sunny intervals. The afternoons are set to be sunny while the nights are likely to be cloudy.
The rains are likely to cause disruption in transportation and businesses activities.
