An accident involving a tanker transporting oil is currently happening at Kikopey along Nairobi - Nakuru Highway. According to sources, massive traffic snarl ups is currently been witnessed on the Gilgil - Nakuru segment of the road after a tanker that was transporting oil lost control and Overturned at Kikopey, splashing oil on the carriageway thus making the road surface slick (slippery).
The Kenya National Highway Authority is now warning motorists against using the carriageway way passing through Kikopey, (the scene of the accident) as the County Government of Nakuru and the Performance Based Contractor work together to clean the road surface.
Motorists are being advised to avoid passing through the accident scene to avoid another disaster erupting but instead use alternative routes to reach their respective destinations.
The alternative routes that motorists can prefer to use are;
Flyover at Njamini (near Soko Mjinga Market) - Njabini - Engineer - Olkalou - Ol Joel Orok - Dundori - Lanet (Nakuru) or use;
Naivasha - Engineer - Olkalou - Ol Joro Orok - Dundori - Lanet (Nakuru) or use;
Gilgil - Olkalou - Ol Joro Orok - Dundori - Lanet (Nakuru) routes to reach their destinations.
